A Molt Mouth Gag is a specialized surgical and dental instrument designed to keep a patient's mouth securely open during oral surgery, extractions, and other dental procedures.

Here is a detailed breakdown of its design, features, and uses:

Key Features & Design

Ratchet Locking Mechanism: It features a ratchet and handle system that allows the clinician to gradually open the jaw to the desired width and lock it securely in place, preventing the mouth from closing involuntarily.

Protective Tips: Many modern variations  feature silicone or PVC-coated pads on the blades to protect the patient's teeth, gums, and oral tissue from trauma

Durable Construction: Typically crafted from high-grade, German-standard stainless steel, making it fully autoclavable and corrosion-resistant.

Size Variations: Available in different sizes—such as pediatric models (around 3.5 inches / 11 cm) and adult models (around 4.5 to 5.5 inches / 14 cm)—to accommodate different patients safely.

Primary Uses

Surgical Access: Provides a clear, unobstructed field of vision and physical access for the dentist or oral surgeon during complex treatments.

Patient Comfort & Safety: Often utilized for sedated or anesthetized patients to reduce Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) strain and fatigue by keeping the jaw stable without requiring muscular effort from the patient.
