Description

A Cryer elevator is a paired, triangular-bladed surgical instrument used by dentists to remove broken tooth roots and retained root fragments, especially in lower multi-rooted molar teeth.

Key Design Features

Triangular Blade: Features a sharp, pointed working end angled at roughly 45 degrees to the main shaft.Left and Right Pairs: Designed in matching pairs (such as Fig. 39/40 or #44/#45) to mirror the contours of the left and right sides of the jaw.

How It Works

Empty Socket Insertion: The clinician inserts the sharp tip into an empty extraction socket (after one root of a lower molar is already removed).

Leverage and Bone Engagement: The triangular tip engages the inter-radicular bone septum (the bone separating the roots) or pushes directly against the remaining root.

Rotational Force: Using a controlled rotational or wheel-and-axle motion, the instrument uses the surrounding bone as a fulcrum to elevate and lift the remaining root fragment cleanly out of the socket
